This advertisement for EF Language Schools has been making the rounds in blog-land lately. I love everything about it - the typography, the cinematography, and most of all - the fact that it's Paris. There are several different versions which you can see here.
One of the places on my to-see-before-I-die list is Iceland. The landscape looks absolutely awe-inspiring and while it's not at the top of most people's travel destinations, it has me intrigued.
I came across this quirkly little video which features Iceland...have a look and enjoy (but pay special attention to the gorgeous scenery and just think what amazing photos would be possible!).
For all of you heading to Trillium Champs - first off congratulations! Second, make sure that you stop by the silent auction display. I've donated two of my favourite horse images. They are matted, framed and ready for you to hang.
The photos were taken of the wild ponies that live in the moors on the Gower Peninsula in Wales. I posted a while back about this experience so you can read more here and here. If you are looking for a horsey travel option, the Gower should be on your list!
There's nothing better than a relaxing night with a few good books and some good music to inspire some creativity. It's no secret that I love the 80's and it's this music that I frequently choose to edit photos to. My challenge though is that I also love some of the more alternative current bands. Imagine my happiness when I discovered Nouvelle Vague - a modern band that covers the 80's. The perfect mix.
This is my current favourite I think (though it changes daily).

Which brings me to my next point...if you are on facebook, be sure to become a fan of Silver Lining Photo
I've really been enjoying everyone's comments about my images, so please keep sending along your feedback - either via the fan page, or from my blog by clicking the "comment" link at the end of each post.
And since no post is complete without a photo, here's one I haven't shared before. It's one of the wild ponies I photographed in Wales. The light was so perfect that day. It was also one of the most inspiring and moving places I've ever been. I will go back.
We had another lovely mini-break at Langdon Hall in Cambridge this weekend. It's where we like to go when we need a quick de-stress and a posh meal. This is the first time we've been without snow on the ground so it was a nice change of scenery. We were able to walk around the grounds and enjoy the crisp spring day. Here's a few images from the weekend.
I recently entered one of my Vancouver & Tofino images in a contest for travel photography held over at mycameraisbiggerthanyours. The image was accepted into the contest and now voting has begun. It's worth checking out the images as there's some really great shots.
If you want to vote for my image, you'll find it on page 6. It's entry 130.
To vote, simply click on the link right below the photo.
It's taken a while to go through all the images from our recent trip but, at the request of friends & family, I've finally managed to put together an album.
The photos in this book were taken over a one-week period in Vancouver and Tofino in mid-February. As you can see, we didn't experience any of the usual rainy weather we were promised. Instead, it was 7 days of sun and about 10 degrees C the whole time.
This is an example of the photo albums I am now offering photo session clients. The books are gorgeous with a very high end feel to them. They are 10x10" with a fully printed hard cover. The pages are varnish coated to give them a real coffee table book feel.
Here's a virtual version of the album:
If you don't have the right plug-in, or are browsing from an iPhone, here's a couple more still images from the book (though I definitely encourage you to get the right plug-in and check out the virtual album):

I'd love to hear which images are your favourites! It was really hard for me to pick which ones to include here so I always find it interesting to hear what other people like best. Let me know what you think...leave a comment here or shoot me an email at kerry@silverliningphoto.ca
I've started to put together a coffee table book of our trip out west. I am so in love with these books - despite it being a very intense process to try to narrow down the images, sort them and then drop them into a custom layout, the end result is totally worth the effort.
These albums make it so much easier to share pictures with family and friends. And because the layouts are free-form, I can add in notes, graphics and photos in whatever pattern I think suits the images I have selected. I have a terrible memory so being able to add in some details while I can remember is a very good option. Despite the best of intentions, I am also guilty of having boxes of unsorted vacation photos so this is a much more efficient option.
Here's a sample double page spread to give you an idea of where I am going with this project. These images are from Vancouver. The text on the lower right side explains the images a bit more - on the right page is an image of the sea wall in Stanley Park, a view of the downtown from our hotel, and a shot from Granville Island. On the left page is a view of North Vancouver from Stanley Park.
The finished album will be a 10x10" hardcover book. Right now I am planning that it will be 40 pages - so brace yourself!
I'll share a few more pages as I get them done and once I get the album finished, I'll put the interactive version here as well.
So much for my plans to blog while I was away. We had 7 days of sun so I was outside every minute of the day to soak it up. It's catch up time now.
We had a great trip out to the west coast. The main draw was Tofino on Vancouver Island, however, we did manage a stopover in Vancouver along the way.
I'll post more photos over the next little while. I took over 800 on this trip so it's taking some time to get through them all. For now, here's a few that caught my eye.
................ A view from the ferry going from Vancouver over to Vancouver Island. No whales, but we did see some seals along the way.
A B&W image of some driftwood with Cheterman Beach in the background.
The rainforest near our hotel in Tofino. Isn't it magical?
Finally, here's a view of the coast from the air. I'll explain more about why we were in the air another day. Stay tuned. A few highlights of the trip:
The Vancouver Aquarium - I grew up watching Danger Bay so it was neat to finally see the aquarium that featured in basically all of the episodes.
Cathedral Groveon Vancouver Island. You can't miss this one. The highway to Tofino literally goes right through it.
Our stay at the Wickaninnish Inn in Tofino. It's a splurge but well worth it. Everything about it was perfect.
Watching the sunrise and sunset every morning we were there. We had sun every day and temperatures between 5 and 10 degrees C. This is not the usual for February so we were quite lucky.
Falling asleep to the sound of the ocean every night in Tofino.
The hot springs. But even more fun than the springs, was getting there : ) Definite bucket list item.
Dinner at Lumiere in Vancouver. The BEST meal I have ever had - and I've had some good ones. The waiter was also the best I think we've ever come across. Amazing music. Creative cocktails. Exceptional wine pairings...this one should be on your bucket list.
