Winter snow sessions

Now that the leaves are almost off the trees, it's time to start thinking about winter. 

The good news is that it's a perfect time for photo sessions. The light is sparkly and the snow makes a fantastic backdrop.  But, since it's hard to predict when we will have snow, if you are interested in a winter session, email me and I will put you on my snow session list. Once we get a nice covering of snow, I will let you know and we can organize the details for your session.

NEW! Custom-designed coffee table books

One of the things many clients struggle with is deciding which photos to order, and then from there finding the time to put together an album.  I am now offering custom-designed coffee table books to ease the decision making process.

The books are 10x10" and are a very high quality.  This isn't your drugstore or big box store photo album!  The hard cover design has a high-end feel that is reminiscent of fine art coffee table books with a fully printed cover.  The cover is then treated with a protective coating to preserve its appearance for years to come.

These books features a white vellum sheet placed in front of the first printed page, and all pages are protected with a Varnish coating giving the pages a lustrous look and satiny feel. A frosted case is included allowing extra protection and easy portability.

I custom design each book individually to ensure the best use of the images from your session.  This includes combining various images and sizes on one page, taking on a storytelling feeling.  In total, your book will have 20 pages of images from your session.

Sneak peek - winter horse/dog session

This past weekend, I had an amazing winter photo session.  Luckily the snow held out, and we got in some fabulous winter shots before the big melt started.

The session was a ton of fun since I got to shoot 2 horses, a dog and their owner in various combinations.  The horses were impeccably turned out and since one was grey and the other a dark bay, the contrast was really fun to work with.  Add in an adorable dog and a stunning property, and we were bound to get some great shots.

Happy Groundhog Day!

While I don't have any photos of groundhogs to share, I did pull up this image from the archives.  I shot this one with my Minolta film camera.  That camera served me well.  Sure, the seals on the lenses were a bit leaky and the meter wasn't reliable, but it did teach me a lot.  I also got some really cool vignetting with that camera.  This particular image was not post-processed or Photoshopped.  I just had the negative scanned so I would have it in my library.

So, what's the connection to groundhog day?  Well, it was taken near Wiarton - the home of Wiarton Willy.  Ok, so it's a bit of a stretch...

It is however is one of my favourite dog images.  It was shot near Christmas on the shores of a frozen lake (Lake Charles).  It was extremely cold that day.  I actually had 4 dogs with me.  In this photo (from left to right) are Remy, Murphy and Barkley.   Harley had given up by this point and headed home without me.

Just a reminder...If you are hoping to get in your winter session, whether for dogs, horses or humans, I am down to only a few weekends in February and March, so get your request in soon.  As much as I would like to say goodbye to winter, there really aren't that many more weeks with a high likelihood of good snow coverage on the ground.

Catnapping sisters

Daisy and Cricket are from the same litter of stray kittens.  When I went to pick ONE to bring home, they were the only 2 left and I just couldn't separate them.  So I brought them both home.  They really love each other most of the time and you often find them napping together - especially in the winter.  This is their favourite spot in the house.  This window gets sun almost all day and they like watching for the rabbit in the backyard.

I love how their tails are curling in this photo.  Funny how much longer Daisy's tail is!

The elusive Daisy

Daisy is a very shy cat - you might even say a bit neurotic.  As soon as she sees the camera come out she runs off and hides from the noise it makes (and it's actually very quiet).  Luckily I caught her today catnapping in the sun with her sister Cricket so I had a bit of time to sneak up on her before she really woke up (and ran and hid).

I had a quick photo session with Murphy this week. He'd been chasing rabbit tracks and came back with snow on his nose and a look of defeat - no rabbit in sight, just footprints.
